Pia Carrot e Youkoso Crowdfunding Campaign is a Failure!

It’s a dating sim series (with hentai elements) that has been around since the 1990s, but no new game has been released for about 16 years. Well, they want to revive the franchise, and recently announced a new title: Pia Carrot e Youkoso AW.

Pia Carrot e Youkoso AW will be the first new game in the series in 16 years. It’s not a direct sequel (as far as I can tell, the last main title was Pia Carrot e Youkoso 4), but rather a brand-new game to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary.

To make this happen, a crowdfunding campaign was launched, aiming to raise 30 million yen to fund the game’s development. Below is a visual of Pia Carrot e Youkoso AW, featuring the new heroine:

However, the campaign is being considered a complete failure! The crowdfunding ends on May 25, and so far, they’ve only managed to raise around 3 million yen out of the 30 million goal! That’s only 9% of the required amount to produce the new game!

Reading the campaign description, you can see how unsure the developers were about reviving Pia Carrot e Youkoso after such a long hiatus:

“When we started this project, our team held many discussions. We believed that ideally, we should create Pia Carrot e Youkoso!! 5, continuing the story from Pia Carrot e Youkoso!! 4.

However, questions arose, such as:

‘In the current PC game market, where numerous fascinating works are constantly being released, is this a franchise that people even know or care about anymore?’

‘It’s been 16 years since the release of 4. Are fans from back then still waiting for something new?’

‘In an industry where the market and audience demands shift drastically over time, will the traditional Pia Carrot series still be accepted?’

‘With limited resources, wouldn’t it be better to create a completely new work, more suited to the times and the current audience?’”

Seeing how poorly the campaign is doing, fans have reacted like this:

• “If it were 20 years ago, they would’ve raised 50 million yen easily.”
• “I thought they were almost there, but I was off by a digit, lol.”
• “Well, at least it’s ‘All or nothing.’ Less financial damage that way.”
• “A Pia Carrot without Mitsumi and Tenroku just doesn’t work…”
• “This title is pretty well-known, right? How did it raise so little?”
• “Most people probably don’t even know Pia Carrot anymore.”
• “Old-school fans are too old or gone by now. It’s not even 18+. And there’s this random isekai setting… probably what caused the failure.”
• “Asking for 30 million yen is way too ambitious, don’t you think?”
• “I remember liking Pia Carrot 3.”
• “I don’t know the market standards, but I was shocked by the 30 million yen goal. Didn’t realize it costs that much.”
• “This kind of failure with a somewhat well-known eroge is rare. I think the problem lies in this particular title or how the project was managed.”
• “Didn’t Pia Carrot already die with part 4?”
