I Don’t Understand Märchen Crown New Manga by Aka Akasaka

On March 19th, Aka Akasaka‘s new manga, Märchen Crown, premiered. I read the first chapter when it came out, but since I didn’t understand anything, I waited for the second chapter to make a post here on the site.

The second chapter came out and I only got more confused, so I decided to wait for the 3rd chapter that came out yesterday and I still don’t understand what’s going on here!

I Don’t Understand Märchen Crown New Manga by Aka Akasaka

The synopsis for Märchen Crown says the following: Rapunzel is a young girl who lives at the top of a tall tower and knows nothing about the outside world. One day, she meets a boy named Mikel, who climbs the tower, and her destiny to change the world begins to unfold!

All we had was the beautiful visual showing Mikel and Rapunzel:

Then the first chapter was released and we have the witch who forbids Rapunzel from leaving the tower, then Mikel appears and takes her out of the tower and the two of them go on these walks, she falls in love with him but then he’s crazy, because he considers monsters as his family.

We get to chapter 2 and she gets scared by Mikel who is revealed to be crazy, and speaking of him, he is killed by soldiers of the imperial guard, a brutal death… not really, he’s still alive but in a bizarre form.

It seems that in this world there is a curse that turns people into monsters? Well, we’re at the beginning of the story but everything is still very confusing. And then in the third chapter Rapunzel finally seems to be rescued by the soldiers, she even meets the prince!

There’s just one problem, this guy is crazy too and he tries to abuse Rapunzel in the middle of the forest full of monsters, ordering the girl to take off her clothes!

And then she is “saved” by Mikel, all disfigured/monster-like, and the chapter ends…. I have a headache after reading the 3 chapters, because I don’t understand anything that’s going on. The readers are literally in the same situation as Rapunzel. We were trapped in the tower and couldn’t get out, and out of nowhere we saw a lot of crazy things happening around the world!

Reading the opinions of the Japanese, the vast majority were already expecting a dark development in the story, so few were surprised. What I saw was many asking Aka to “not screw up” the ending of the story.
