BL Artist Shocked by Uncensored Bootleg Version
Manga piracy is a persistent issue for many artists, but BL mangaka Sattsu Kida had an unexpected surprise when they found their work reposted illegally. Not only was their manga shared without permission, but the reposters redrew the censored parts in an even more dramatic way than the original.

In a post on X, Kida shared their reaction: “I was shocked to see my manga reposted without authorization by someone overseas. But as I flipped through the pages, I realized they had redrawn the censored parts in an even more exaggerated way than I had imagined!”
Censorship in BL and yaoi manga usually covers certain parts with white, allowing readers to fill in details according to their own preferences—a practice dating back to 1980s gay magazines. It seems the illegal reposters took this as a challenge, creating an exaggerated version that even surprised the original artist.
Other manga artists have shared similar experiences. Mangaka Hasu, for instance, recounted how their work was reposted uncensored with such intricate detail that they thought the white-out had somehow been digitally removed.
While Kida’s story was shared humorously, it sheds light on a serious issue: manga piracy and how it impacts artists, who often lose control over their own creations.
