Woman arrested for stealing and selling boyfriend’s figure
A Woman was arrested for stealing and selling boyfriend’s figure Last Saturday morning, Hyogo Prefectural Police received a call from a 31-year-old man in Himeji City. After calling the Japanese police emergency number 110, the man told a staff member that his figure had “disappeared.”
Figures can’t roam alone. The man was not living alone, he was also living with his former work colleague, his 41-year-old girlfriend. After an investigation, the police determined that she was the culprit and arrested her on suspicion of theft

Hearing this, you might imagine a scenario like this: A guy who is a hardcore nerd has a 2D anime girl figure that he loves more than his gilfriend.
His girlfriend eventually gets fed up with his obsession with the character and trashes the character in his absence in a desperate attempt to get him to pay more attention to his real-life romantic relationships.
But in this case, the character the girlfriend stole wasn’t a skimpy, provocatively posed young girl. Although police reports about such thefts are sometimes only detailed as “items from the popular anime series,” the Shikama Police Department told the Hyogo Prefectural Police that the figure was Sora, the main character in the Square Enix Kingdom Hearts series.
The motive for the theft was not resentment or jealousy. The woman, currently unemployed, told the police that she sold the figure to use the money for “subsistence expenses” (the specific Japanese term she used was “seikatsuhi,” which translates to “lifestyle expenses” and depending on the individual, could also encompass entertainment expenses).
So, you can see that the woman resorted to stealing and selling her boyfriend’s figure to cover her cost of living! And that’s not the right thing to do. Let’s take a look at some reactions from Twitter.
“If it were me, I’d end the relationship immediately.”
“As a Kingdom Hearts fan, this saddens me.”
“So the figure wasn’t of a pretty girl…”
“I didn’t even know they made Kingdom Hearts figures.”
“You can get that much money for a Kingdom Hearts figure? Still, it’s wrong to betray someone’s trust and steal their things like that, though.”
Regarding the last comment, Kingdom Hearts, like many other widely popular franchises in Japan, covers a wide range of merchandise prices, from cheap trinkets to sophisticated, limited-edition collector’s items. Police say the current market value is only 4,000 yen ($36.70), so the woman doesn’t seem to have done much research before stealing the Sora figure.
