Osamake Author criticizes Doga Kobo for bad adaptation
Do you remember the anime Osamake? If not, it’s about a childhood friend who refuses to lose to another girl in relation to the guy she likes.
When the light novel debuted, it was a huge success and sold quite well for its type, with reprints and was widely talked about here, so much so that it quickly gained an anime adaptation.
However, the anime was a disaster in terms of animation; the studio that adapted Osamake is Doga Kobo, the same studio as Oshi no Ko, which was very well animated.
Osamake Author criticizes Doga Kobo for bad adaptation
So, Shuiichi Nimaru, the author of Osamake, went to his profile to criticize Doga Koba, he doesn’t mention the studio by name, but everyone knows that it was Doga Kobo that adapted his series.
Basically Shuiichi Nimaru commented on a publication of the anime “Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi”, also animated by Doga Kobo and doesn’t have bad animation.
Nimaru said that like the author, he had difficulty watching more than 4 episodes of Osamake and he says he suffered from writer’s block for 6 months due to the great disappointment he had with the anime. He also reveals that he sank into alcohol, drinking quite.
And now comes perhaps the most shocking fact of how a bad adaptation can influence the original material, he says that before the anime, only the first volume of the light novel had 19 reprints in 22 months, totaling 54 reprints for all volumes, but after the anime was broadcast, the novel volumes were no longer reprinted! Indicating that people are no longer buying like they used to.
Adding fuel to the fire, a question was raised: could Roshidere suffer the same fate as Osamake? Remembering that Roshidere is one of the most popular light novels today.
So, if the adaptation is bad, it can influence the sales of the light novel, as the author of Osamake is saying happened with his work because of the adaptation Doga Kobo made.
Doga Kobo prioritized the release of its original anime for the next season, “Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai,” and Roshidere was postponed to July.
The question raised is, will Doga Kobo prioritize Roshidere or the second season of Oshi no Ko, which is already a success and is also scheduled to premiere in July? Will the studio be able to adapt both anime?
