Mushoku Tensei Opening is about Sylphie saving Rudy
After about 30 episodes, Mushoku Tensei finally received an opening and an ending, something that didn’t exist in the anime until now. In case you don’t know, in the first season and the early episodes of this second season, the credits rolled while music played and the story was shown.
The reason for this is that the anime’s production wanted to use the space that would have been used for the opening and ending to showcase more of the story. But let’s take a look at how Mushoku Tensei’s first opening shows us?
Mushoku Tensei Opening is about Sylphie saving Rudy
This is a comment about the Mushoku Tensei opening that was made on Twitter, and I found it interesting to bring up. The opening and ending of Mushoku Tensei seem to convey a theme of “reunion with the soul.”
A melodious chorus paired with a picturesque dream, a mist faintly seen from cherished memories as reality pulls Rudy back to the present. A not-so-distant future on the horizon, with motifs of colorful bird feathers, each with their special person, subtly hinted in the background.
Sylphie in her adult form renders soft and romantic tones, explicitly detailing the viewer about Rudy’s future after a considerable time and self-reflection.
The opening has variations of blue, green, and red, symbolizing the characters that have been most impacted by Rudeus and those who have influenced him the most. Blue obviously represents Roxy:
Red obviously representing Eris:
And green being Sylphie, with white representing Fitz (despite being the same person).
The blue bird flying over Ranoa University signifies Roxy’s presence as a former student of the university. Rudeus being Roxy’s student creates this connection between the two and the place.
Through all the painful memories, he analyzes the eventual glimpses of hope that return in beautiful conceptions. The green bird quickly manifests into a translucent white form, the cohesion of Sylphie and Fitz impressing aesthetic sensibilities, fate working in mysterious ways.
Sylphie’s nonexistent presence (except in the initial seconds), but highlighted in a spiritual or incorporeal form, gives a hint of how her importance propels the plot, for Rudy’s mental well-being as he grasps at empty air, yet something tangible.
