Konami is the company with the most patents in Japan’s gaming industry
A recent study revealed that Konami is the company with the most patents in Japan’s gaming industry. Bandai Namco Entertainment and Sony Interactive Entertainment took second and third place, respectively.
The report by Patent Result, the company that collects and analyzes information about patents and corporations, was published on June 28 and uses data on patent examination processes conducted in the year 2022 to rank companies in the Japanese gaming and entertainment industry.
Konami is the company with the most patents
The criterion for the ranking was the number of patents that a company has that were cited as a basis for rejecting the patent registration of a competing company.
This study reveals which companies are the current leaders in the development and registration of new technologies. In this ranking, Konami, owner of famous series like Silent Hill and Metal Gear, took first place with 343 of its patents blocking the patents of competitors in 2022.
Bandai Namco Entertainment was close with 325 patents, and Sony Interactive Entertainment was third with 236 of those patents. These are the companies with the most patents in Japan’s gaming industry.
As you can see, Konami is the company with the most patents in the Japanese gaming industry, and according to another study, the company registered an average of 101 patents per year over the last 5 years and a total of 1,568 patents in the period of 2013 to May 2023.
Konami also gets tough when it comes to its intellectual property, as it has filed a patent infringement-related lawsuit against Cygames for technologies used in Uma Musume Pretty Derby.
