Game Center CX was celebrating the 40th anniversary of SEGA consoles, and they brought Masahiro Sakurai to play some games on the Mega Drive mini while providing insights from a developer’s perspective.
While playing Streets of Rage 2, Sakurai demonstrated how it was possible to see Blaze’s underwear while playing. However, when switching to the Western version of Streets of Rage 2, it was no longer possible to see her underwear.

As you can see above, this is one of the differences between the Japanese and foreign versions of Streets of Rage 2. When commenting on this, Masahiro Sakurai said, “I think Japanese people have a higher tolerance for ecchi content.”
This is something that is probably true. From personal experience, I enjoy watching people play games that I’ve already played, and one of those series is Persona.
Persona games 3, 4, and 5 have scenes in hot springs where the boys end up meeting the girls, and comedy ensues. However, every streamer I’ve seen reaching these scenes complains, saying it’s unnecessary.
Hot spring scenes are quite common in Japanese media, but anyway, you can watch Masahiro Sakurai’s participation in the video below:
