Homura Mouth Scares Otakus in New Madoka Trailer
Next year, the new Madoka Magica movie will premiere, titled Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Walpurgis no Kaiten, and recently the film received a new trailer, showing even more scenes and making fans even more excited. However, there was a particular scene that “disturbed” some fans — Homura’s mouth.
Homura Mouth Scares Otakus in New Madoka Trailer
First, watch the trailer for Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Walpurgis no Kaiten below if you’re interested, of course. If not, we’ve taken a screenshot of the scene in question further down.
In the trailer, we have a scene where someone places their hand in Homura’s mouth and pulls her lips down, revealing her teeth and gums, and this scene became a topic on Japanese Twitter, as it’s somewhat unusual, I’d say, to see anime characters with this kind of drawing, right?
Let’s look at some comments:
“Considering the work is Madoka Magica, I’m about 90% sure it was deliberately drawn to look creepy.
Adult game companies know how to expose gums in an attractive (or erotic) way, so they probably understood the balance needed there.”
“It may look scary, but her lips don’t seem that bad.”
“To be honest, I almost laughed when I saw this scene for the first time. My friend, who was watching with me, mentioned something about rewinding the final scene, but I just couldn’t get this out of my head. Sorry.”
“I think it’s because the design didn’t take the gums into consideration.”
“The contrast between simplified anatomy and realistic anatomy really creates a strange image.”
“It didn’t need to be that realistic.”
“It looks like a creepy doll.”
“Watching the trailer, I felt a similar discomfort to that of Resident Evil dogs. It’s probably intentional in Madoka Magica; it really is bizarre…”
“I think it was intentional, but setting that aside, it’s starting to look sexy. Homura really is very cute.”
“And those visible teeth are clearly the upper teeth, which only adds to the eeriness. By the way, I used to be a dental technician.”
“Since it’s Madoka Magica, I imagine it’s meant to evoke a feeling of fear and creepiness.”
“The upper lip is portrayed normally, which makes it even more unsettling.”
“When I saw this in the theater, I got chills.”
“I was so curious that I went to watch the trailer, and it was worse than I imagined. Creepy.”
“The flat anime face, when it turns and suddenly reveals the thickness of the lips and gums, shows how a flat face with a more realistic mouth can create such a strange image…”
“From the first time I saw it, I felt a discomfort and kept thinking about it, but I finally understood. The lower teeth were drawn the size of the upper teeth, which creates a feeling of strangeness. It gave me chills, it was so creepy.”
And what is your opinion on the scene in question?
