FANZA Blocks Foreign Access to the Site
Sad news for those who enjoy and purchase original JAV films to support the Japanese industry. One of the largest JAV sales websites, DMM/FANZA, has blocked foreign access to the site.
This comes after they already blocked purchases using international credit cards on their sites, but why did they do it?
FANZA Blocks Foreign Access to the Site
The FANZA/DMM website is a virtual store where JAVs can be officially purchased, and believe it or not, there are people who genuinely buy the films, as I know that the vast majority just download pirated versions.
According to some reports I read, previously the FANZA/DMM site accepted payments with international credit cards, so people were able to buy the films. However, this payment method was removed, leaving people with no way to make purchases. Now, when you enter the site:
You are greeted with a notice that the site is not available in your region. Some people claim that this makes it extremely difficult to support the industry and that piracy seems to be the only option left.
I couldn’t find an official statement from FANZA/DMM, only theories on Twitter, one of which suggests that it became very complicated for them to accept MasterCard and Visa cards, as these two companies have been imposing rules and restrictions on what certain sites can sell for years.
In case you are not aware, MasterCard and Visa are on a journey to ban various types of adult content, such as non-consensual stories (when both characters agree to engage in the act), thus limiting several films and manga.
Some Japanese sites have even said “enough” to the restrictions imposed by these two companies and simply decided to remove the option of payment via MasterCard/Visa from their stores, choosing other credit card operators that have no issue with this content.
In the end, for those who like to support this kind of original content, it has become a bit more complicated.
