Some Japanese Otaku says Current Anime is Made to Please Foreigners
Whether by legal means or not, the anime industry has become quite popular abroad, and this has awakened a feeling of ”betrayal” in some Japanese otakus.
In the Japanese forum Yaraon, Japanese otakus began to discuss the direction of the anime and manga industry, because in their opinion, it seems that companies in this area are more concerned with pleasing and obtaining gains from audiences and foreign markets than from the internal market itself.
Some Japanese Otaku says Current Anime is Made to Please Foreigners
In the opinion of some Japanese otakus, anime productions have been falling in quality, delivering stories that they themselves describe as ”garbage” where only a war theme or simply the theme of war is of interest.
The cliché of the protagonist who is super strong for no apparent reason, going through censorship issues, and this is where they most agree, as they claim that this tendency to like the ”gaijin” is diminishing the creativity and freedom of its authors.
One point they also touched upon was the issue of ”political agendas”, as Japanese otakus believe that studios are also being influenced by this wave of new positions, discourses and ideologies. Going so far as to blame these trends for the fact that issues that could be highly offensive to some communities abroad are no longer addressed.
The issue of subcontracting or outsourcing was also addressed, as they argue that this practice is weakening the ability of studios to maintain autonomy and that resorting to studios in China or Korea is the cause of several drops in animation quality, as well as the delay in broadcasting some animes. What do you think?
