Criticism for Mushoku Tensei 2 Quality animation
The popular anime “Mushoku Tensei” has been airing since July 2, but fans are feeling something strange about its quality. The series, which was once praised for “surpassing Kimetsu no Yaiba,” now seems to lack the quality expected of a TV anime. What could have happened?
Criticism for Mushoku Tensei 2 Quality animation
The first season of “Mushoku Tensei” was known for its high-quality animation. Both the everyday scenes with detailed emotional expressions of the characters and the incredibly impressive action sequences received overwhelming praise.
Especially, the fight scene in episode 21 garnered a lot of attention and was hailed as “visually violent” and “movie-like in quality.”
While the second season still maintains adequate animation for a TV anime, the delicate quality does not match that of a movie, leaving fans disappointed.
On Twitter, comments like “The second season is interesting, but the animation is a bit concerning” and “Compared to the extraordinary animation of the first season, it seems lacking” are gaining attention.
The reason behind this lies in significant changes to the core team since the first season.
“In the first season, Mr. Okamoto served as the director, with character designs by Mr. Sugiyama Kazutaka and Mr. Takahashi Mizuki. In the second season, there was a change in director to Mr. Hirano Hiroki, and character designs were handed over to Ms. Shimada Mao and Ms. Saito Yoshiko.
Mr. Okamoto, who left ‘Mushoku Tensei,’ directed ‘Idolmaster Cinderella Girls U149’ in the spring season, which also drew attention for its movie-level quality.”
The studio Studio Bind, responsible for producing “Mushoku Tensei,” was created specifically for this work. The extraordinary quality of the first season as a TV anime can probably be attributed to it being a project where the company’s reputation was at stake.
“Director Okamoto was invited by the company’s producer, Mr. Ohomo Juya, and they gathered the animation, art, and direction team. The anime’s quality was achieved by assembling a solid team.
However, DVD sales were not as good, making the success of the project somewhat questionable. Additionally, there were rumors of disputes over the transfer of staff from Studio Bind.”
Internal Issues in Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Anime
Furthermore, the second season of “Mushoku Tensei” is also drawing attention due to production problems at the studio.
A Chinese animator who participated as a subcontractor reported that their layouts, which were supposed to be “unused,” were used without permission. They stated on Twitter that their name did not appear on the team list, and they had not received payment.
This seems to be a problem with the progress of subcontractors’ production, and the whistleblower later reported that the situation was being resolved.
However, for fans who enjoyed the first season, it seems that the second season is facing many issues. Will they be able to reclaim their reputation and elevate the series to a “Kimetsu no Yaiba” level once again?
