Comic Cune apologizes for the Elf-Sensei no Toilet wa Doko desu ka advertisement
It was only yesterday when we published here that the advertisement for the manga Elf-Sensei no Toilet wa Doko desu ka in bookstores went viral because of its content. In case you don’t know what happened, volume 1 of the manga Elf-Sensei no Toilet wa Doko desu ka came out.
The story is about an elf who comes to work as a teacher on Earth, and because she is an elf she is unable to urinate in human toilets, she can only urinate in nature, and since she is a teacher at a school for boys only, the manga tells her “adventures” in finding places to urinate.
And the advertisement in question shows the elf teacher urinating in the middle of a bookstore:
Forma que a editora encontrou para divulgar o vol 1 do mangá Elf-sensei no Toilet wa Doko desu ka.
É sobre uma professora elfa que ñ consegue fazer xixi em banheiros humanos, ela TEM que fazer na natureza. Então o mangá mostra ela encontrando formas de urinar. pic.twitter.com/yy4cw2aivH

The issue spread across Japanese social media and many people complained, so much so that Comic Cune magazine, in which the manga is published, apologized!

In an official announcement on their Twitter account, Comic Cune magazine apologized for the way they created the advertisement and also said that they will remove it from all bookstores where it was placed.
When the issue took over social media, many complained that putting this ad in regular bookstores for everyone to see was a bad idea and that it was something that should not have left the “otaku bubble”.
Looking at some opinions from Japanese people, most seem to celebrate the removal of the ad from the publicity, with many happy with this news. Others hope that at least the manga sells well with all the publicity that was given over the controversy.
Others said that this is the kind of thing that should only be in otaku stores or at manga events.
