CLAMP to Resume xxxHOLiC: Rei Manga After Extended Hiatus

Kodansha announced on Thursday that the manga creator circle CLAMP will bring back xxxHOLiC: Rei. The series is set to return in this year’s 21st issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine, scheduled for release on April 21.

xxxHOLiC: Rei is the latest installment in CLAMP’s renowned xxxHOLiC series and initially launched in 2013 in Weekly Young Magazine after a brief delay.

However, the manga faced several interruptions. It first went on hiatus in July 2014, resumed in April 2015, and has been published irregularly since then. The last chapters were released between June 2016 and March 2017. Kodansha published the fourth compiled volume in October 2016. While there were plans for the manga to resume in spring 2023, it ultimately did not happen.

The original xxxHOLiC manga follows Yuuko, a witch who grants people’s wishes but demands something precious in return, and Kimihiro Watanuki, a young man plagued by spiritual visions. When Watanuki encounters Yuuko, she offers to rid him of the spirits tormenting him, but in exchange, he must work in her shop and assist her in granting the wishes of others.

CLAMP serialized the original xxxHOLiC manga from 2003 to 2011 in Weekly Young Magazine and Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, rebranding it as xxxHOLiC: Rō in 2009. The series expanded into an anime film, two television anime seasons, several OVA projects, and, more recently, a live-action film released in April 2022.
