Is there a correct way to draw big breasts in anime and manga?
Could you, artist, tell me if there really is a correct way to draw big breasts in anime and manga? A heated debate erupts among otaku over big breast designs!
It all started when a Japanese twitter user shared his frustration when he saw a lecture where they discussed how to draw big breasts and clothes correctly.
This user then did the good and drew himself two arts that according to him are valid! Because for him, there is no ”correct way” to draw big breasts.
Is there a correct way to draw big breasts in anime and manga?
In the drawing on the left we can see a more realistic representation, so to speak, of a girl with her big breasts where the clothes are not glued to the body and the breasts are highlighted but fall straight down.
In the drawing on the right, we have a representation that is more fictional in view of the girl’s clothes. Her outfit gives her boobs a big boost.
The Japanese reacted with:
“Breasts are really amazing, aren’t they?”
“I used to think that the right side was reality…”
“Actually, it feels more like overflowing lust than overflowing passion. Although it’s free to use any kind of expression, I really hope that sexually exaggerated representations remain strictly within the adult category. They should by no means be used in collaborations for the general public, seriously.”
“Depending on the fabric of the clothing, it may seem like the right side really exists. So, probably, that person is a virgin.”
“I mean, it’s a drawing tutorial, isn’t it? It’s obvious that it’s natural to draw what is based on reality.”
“With T-shirts, depending on the material and size, it may seem like the right side really exists. Therefore, if we consider ‘being in line with reality’ as the correct answer, this can happen in both cases. However, I think it’s important to understand that in costumes, this can be interpreted as ‘sexual exaggeration’.”
“That’s true. When you’re drawing, the parts that are fun to draw or the fetishes often get added automatically, and it’s not necessary for everything to be portrayed realistically. It’s fiction, so let us do it as we want. Both are good.”
“Those who praise faithfulness to reality in works of fiction often have something wrong. After all, it’s a work of creation.”
Anyway, do you think there is a correct way to draw big breasts in anime and manga? Otakus have also debated whether romcoms should end after confession.
