Akiba Shop Fight Stinky Otakus with washing powder
Akiba Shop Fight Stinky Otakus with washing powder! An anime and video game store where the public is not well known for its hygiene, posted the following tweet in late May:
”An order from our store. The weather has gotten much warmer with the recent sudden jump in temperatures. As a result, there has been a small but noticeable increase in the number of customers arriving at our store in an unhygienic state.
We ask customers to shower before entering the store and arrive clean, especially when we are holding in-store tournaments and many people share the same enclosed space for a long period of time”

(@cardland_akiba) May 19, 2023

Cardland has also advised prospective tournament participants that if their level of hygiene is deemed likely to cause discomfort to other players, they will not be permitted to participate.
Bathing is just one aspect of proper hygiene. Wearing clothes that smell good is also very good! And with that, about a week after Cardland’s request went viral, they received a box from Graphico, a Japanese distributor of washing powder!

”We are very grateful for this” tweeted Cardland, which says it plans to give samples to customers and tournament attendees. Well then, shall we analyze some comments from the Japanese?
”This is the first step towards true peace in our world”
This is very clever marketing by OxiClean”
”I’m imagining OxiClean doing special packaging designs with anime characters”
”They would sell so much!”
”OxiClean is actually very effective against accumulated proteins like sweat and body oil”
Here’s an attempt by this Akiba shop to improve the environment by making otaku smell better by giving them washing powder. But… There are no guarantees if they will actually use it!
