Woman Finds Man Hiding Under Hotel Bed in Japan
In a real-life experience straight out of a horror movie, a Ukrainian tourist went through a terrifying ordeal during her stay at a hotel in Tokyo, Japan, when she discovered a man hiding under the bed in her room. The incident happened in March 2025 but gained widespread attention after going viral on social media in late April.
The protagonist of this story is Natalie Komenko, a young Ukrainian woman who currently resides in Thailand. She was traveling solo through Japan and had booked three nights at the popular APA Hotel, located in the Japanese capital. Everything was going smoothly until the second night of her stay, on March 30.

According to Natalie’s own account, around 7:30 p.m., she returned to her room and noticed a strange smell. Curious and suspicious, she decided to inspect the space, and that’s when she encountered something completely unexpected: a man was hiding under the bed.
Upon realizing he had been discovered, the man — described as being of Asian appearance — crawled out from under the bed, stared at Natalie for about three seconds, and then began to scream. Natalie froze in fear, giving the intruder enough time to flee the room.
Frightened, she called for help, and hotel staff quickly arrived and contacted the police. A search of the room was conducted, and officers found a portable battery (power bank) and a USB cable, apparently belonging to the man who had hidden under the bed.
The case of the man hiding under the bed in Japan quickly gained attention on social media, especially after Natalie posted videos on Instagram describing what happened. Still shaken, she canceled the remaining nights of her stay and moved to another hotel in Tokyo.

Since the intruder was found in a locked room, Natalie asked the hotel to take responsibility for the room’s management and security. After some negotiations, she received a $600 refund (just over 80,000 yen) for the three-night stay. However, the hotel rejected her request for $1,600 (about 230,000 yen) in compensation, claiming that such reimbursement was not covered by their policies.
In her posts, Natalie emphasized that despite the incident, she still admires Japan, but warned others to always check their hotel rooms upon arrival.
Japanese police are still investigating the case, and so far, there is no information on the identity or whereabouts of the man. APA Hotel stated it is cooperating with the authorities and has promised to review its safety protocols.
