Major Pirate Anime Sites Shut Down

Recently, several popular pirate websites were shut down, including major anime and movie streaming platforms like Aniwave, Anix, AnimeSuge, and Fboxz. Both the anime industry and Hollywood have joined forces in the fight against piracy, as stated by copyright holders. Notably, many of the world’s largest pirate sites operate out of Vietnam.

Yesterday, one of the biggest pirate anime platforms, Aniwave, ceased operations. According to SimilarWeb, the site boasted an impressive 171 million monthly visits! Upon accessing the site, users are now greeted with a farewell message:

“Now that everything has improved… it’s also time for us to say goodbye… It’s hard to part with something we’ve put so much effort and passion into, but it’s something we need to do. Every game must come to an end… and life is about experiences. Every mistake teaches us lessons that help us grow. If possible, please use paid legal services. It’s something we must do to show respect to creators and content producers. Goodbye.”

Anime fans expressed their disappointment with the shutdown and fear that more pirate anime sites may meet the same fate.

One user even created a digital “cemetery” listing all the pirate anime websites that have been closed by copyright holders.

Pirate Manga Sites Are Also Targeted

We recently reported on Webtoon and Kakao‘s efforts to shut down sites distributing pirated manga and manhwas. Kakao has specifically targeted the world’s largest pirate manga site, known as “M.”

Even the infamous Nhentai is not safe. An adult manga publisher has taken legal action to identify the site’s owners and bring them to justice.
