VTuber Almost Dies After Being Forced to Rehearse While Sick

The entertainment industry often has its dark side, bringing shocking stories like the one reported on Reddit today. In China, there’s a VTuber named Shiori who is part of the VirtuaReal company, belonging to the eighteenth generation.

VirtuaReal planned an event with its VTubers during Bilibili World, a live 3D event, and Shiori was one of the VTubers scheduled to appear. However, her participation almost ended in tragedy.

According to Shiori, she nearly died due to her company’s insistence that she participate in the event despite her poor health. Before the event, Shiori was hospitalized with liver damage, and her ALT (alanine aminotransferase) levels in her blood were at fatal levels, over 1600 U/L.

Normal ALT levels are generally between 7 and 56 units per liter (U/L) of blood. Levels above 1600 U/L indicate severe liver damage and can lead to serious or fatal complications if not treated immediately.

Despite her critical condition, VirtuaReal asked Shiori to rehearse for the 3D presentation before she was fully recovered. She had to sign a liability waiver to absolve the hospital of responsibility should something fatal occur after her early discharge.

VirtuaReal is a company founded jointly by Bilibili and AnyColor, the owner of Nijisanji, which is already facing criticism among fans. This incident has further tarnished the company’s reputation.
