Oshi no Ko Ended Exactly as Aka Planned
Much has been said about the ending of Oshi no Ko, with many people upset and finding the conclusion unsatisfactory. Additionally, a prominent YouTuber put forth a theory suggesting that the author, Aka Akasaka, “got tired of Oshi no Ko and rushed to finish the manga.”
However, according to an interview published today by Shueisha’s website with Aka Akasaka, he stated that Oshi no Ko ended exactly as he had planned.
Oshi no Ko Ended Exactly as Aka Planned
During the interview, the interviewer asked: “You previously mentioned that you had a general outline for Oshi no Ko from the beginning. Did everything go as planned until the end?” To which we can read Aka’s response:
“Yes, the ending happened as planned.
However, with Oshi no Ko, I made a clear distinction between the parts I had decided on from the start and the parts I left open. It’s possible to decide everything from the beginning, and I used to be that kind of author, but I think I changed after working on Kaguya-sama.
There were moments when a character’s inner feelings, which I hadn’t fully understood myself, became clear, and I wanted to honor those moments. As a result, it became almost impossible to decide everything from A to Z.
So, although the ending of Oshi no Ko was decided, I think it’s a story that also valued the characters, and I feel that has become part of my identity as an author.”
As we can see from what Aka says, the general ending of the story was planned from the beginning and was executed as he wanted. The only thing he left open were the actions of some characters, which is honestly natural when writing a story.
