Man who killed parents for interrupting his anime gets his sentence
Remember the 2021 case about a man who killed his father for interrupting his anime? His sentence finally came out, and 60-year-old Junji Matsumoto was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
According to the indictment, Junji Matsumoto, an unemployed defendant from Nishi, Fukuoka, killed his father, 88-year-old Hirokazu Matsumoto, and his mother, 87-year-old Makie Matsumoto, and then dumped their bodies in a commercial refrigerator. He was charged with murder and abandonment of a corpse and was arrested in June 2021.
Prosecutors asked for life imprisonment, saying that murdering two people was on a completely different scale from the average problems arising from the fatigue of nursing care and that there was no room for leniency. However, the defense argued that a sentence of around 23 years was appropriate as the defendant’s severe disability had an impact on the crime.
Matsumoto lived as a hikikkomori for 35 years, spending most of his days reading manga and watching anime. According to him, he never had a cell phone and did not access the internet.
It all started in July 2021, when Matsumoto’s father asked for help in the bathroom, he exploded with rage because he was watching anime and didn’t want to be disturbed, in that, he ended up strangling his father.
He killed his mother next.
