Incomplete Mangas due to the death of their authors

Unfortunately, many manga artists end up dying before they even complete their manga. Artists who dedicated themselves to bringing joy to people with their life’s work.

Today we are going to list some mangas that are incomplete due to the death of their authors.

Hi no Tori (1967):

Incomplete at 16 volumes due to Tezuka Osamu’s death in 1989 from stomach cancer. His last words were ”I’m begging you, let me work!”. Despite being unfinished, Hi no Tori is widely considered Tezuka’s masterpiece; he worked on the series for over 30 years.

Berserk:

Incomplete at 41 volumes due to the death of Kentaro Miura in 2021 due to an aortic dissection. Perhaps the most emblematic example of the premature end of a series in the new millennium.

Amane Atatameru

Incomplete at 3 volumes due to Sadogawa Jun’s death by suicide in 2013.

Boukyaku no Shirushi to Hime

Incomplete at 7 volumes due to Soutsuka Rou’s death in 2014 from stomach cancer.

Chokomimi

Incomplete at 11 volumes due to Sonoda Konomi’s death in 2019 from breast cancer.

Crayon Shin Chan

Incomplete at 50 volumes due to Usui Yoshito’s death in 2009 in a hiking accident. In 2010, a sequel to the series, New Crayon Shin-chan, was released by members of Usui’s creative team.

Curse Blood

Incomplete at 1 volume due to Kajiyama Hiroshi’s death in 2018 from undisclosed causes.

Cut to Paste Kono Sekai wo Ikiteiku

Incomplete at 9 volumes due to writer Tsugikuru’s death in 2019 from undisclosed causes (possibly complications from a brain hemorrhage in 2017). It is unclear whether the artist intends to continue the manga.

Denkou Sekka BOYS

Completed in 5 volumes (including the spinoff series Chouhatsu Denkou Sekka Boys) due to the death of Tohjoh Asami in 2007 due to an undisclosed illness.

Doraemon

Incomplete at 45 volumes due to the death of Fujiko F. Fujio in 1996 from liver failure.

Hana China

Incomplete at 19 volumes due to Nishi Yuji’s death in 2013 from stomach cancer.

Highschool of the Dead

Incomplete at 7 volumes due to the death of writer Sato Daisuke in 2017 from heart disease.

Hikari to Tomo ni…: Jiheishouji wo Kakaete

Incomplete at 15 volumes due to the death of Tobe Keiko in 2010 from mesothelioma.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisee

Incomplete in 2 volumes due to the death of Takeda Hinata in 2017 from undisclosed causes.

Itazura na Kiss

Incomplete at 23 volumes due to Tada Kaoru’s death in 1999 from a cerebral hemorrhage caused by a head injury. According to his spouse, the anime adaptation uses Tada’s intended ending and makes use of his notes.

Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai shiteita

Incomplete at 3 volumes due to Fujiwara Cocoa’s death in 2015 due to an undisclosed illness.

Kimio Vivo

Incomplete in 2 volumes due to the death of Eguchi Kousei in 2020 from undisclosed causes.

Kugutsushi Lin

Incomplete at 14 volumes due to Wada Shinji’s death in 2011 from heart disease.

Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e Kayou

Incomplete in 4 volumes due to artist Kayaharuka’s death in 2021 from pancreatic cancer.

Tatoe Hai ni Nattemo

Zero no Tsukaima
