Hi no Tori (1967):
Incomplete at 16 volumes due to Tezuka Osamu’s death in 1989 from stomach cancer. His last words were ”I’m begging you, let me work!”. Despite being unfinished, Hi no Tori is widely considered Tezuka’s masterpiece; he worked on the series for over 30 years.
Berserk:
Incomplete at 41 volumes due to the death of Kentaro Miura in 2021 due to an aortic dissection. Perhaps the most emblematic example of the premature end of a series in the new millennium.
Amane Atatameru
Incomplete at 3 volumes due to Sadogawa Jun’s death by suicide in 2013.
Boukyaku no Shirushi to Hime
Incomplete at 7 volumes due to Soutsuka Rou’s death in 2014 from stomach cancer.
Chokomimi
Incomplete at 11 volumes due to Sonoda Konomi’s death in 2019 from breast cancer.
Crayon Shin Chan
Incomplete at 50 volumes due to Usui Yoshito’s death in 2009 in a hiking accident. In 2010, a sequel to the series, New Crayon Shin-chan, was released by members of Usui’s creative team.

Cut to Paste Kono Sekai wo Ikiteiku
Incomplete at 9 volumes due to writer Tsugikuru’s death in 2019 from undisclosed causes (possibly complications from a brain hemorrhage in 2017). It is unclear whether the artist intends to continue the manga.
