Artist Mizin Apologizes for Uma Musume Fan Art
Creating fan art of Uma Musume can be challenging. All characters in the series are based on real racehorses, for which the game’s developers had to obtain the necessary permissions. Horse racing is quite popular in Japan, adding to the concern over the portrayal of these animals.
Since the characters are based on real horses, owned by companies and individuals, Uma Musume has previously requested that fans refrain from creating provocative fan art. However, some artists still produce such content. For example, the fan art below depicts two characters in a “tense situation”:
There is a group known as the “Uma Musume police,” comprised of fans who go after anyone violating the request to avoid adult fan art of the characters. These fans have even harassed illustrators, as happened with the artist Mizin.
Artist Mizin Apologizes for Uma Musume Fan Art
Mizin, an artist known for creating Uma Musume fan art, faced backlash from this “police” after one of his fan arts was deemed to violate the game’s terms. The above fan art is an example of his work, and below is another piece:
Mizin has since deleted all his Uma Musume fan arts from his Twitter profile and issued an apology for violating the franchise’s terms. Comments suggest that he faced harassment due to his fan art, leading him to remove his content. However, his Pixiv profile still contains some Uma Musume fan arts, indicating that he might have created R18 (adult) content and left only the less provocative art on Pixiv.
