Are anime girls being portrayed more realistically?
Goodbye big breasts, hello big thighs! Do you think anime girls are being portrayed more realistically? Another discussion of value arises in the otaku community about big thighs replacing big breasts in anime!
On a Japanese forum called Yaraon, many otaku shared their opinions on a certain departure from exaggeration and an embrace of realism in anime.
Are anime girls being portrayed more realistically?
The discussion began with the industry being criticized for the apparent abandonment of the term known as ‘kyonyu-ka’ (gigantic breasts), and now something more realistic is being sought to depict anime girls.
There were many opinions during the Yaraon debate; some say they prefer something more balanced, stating: ‘It’s a correct world, those who exaggerate with these features need to stop,’ while others question: ‘Why do otaku like big breasts?’
Some view it as a positive trend, saying: ‘This is a good trend, it used to be somewhat unpleasant,’ and others say it depends on the source material.
Another user noticed that swimsuit and hot spring episodes are decreasing, another one says adjustments can very well go too far, turning a character with big breasts from the original material into having small breasts in the anime.
Now delving a bit deeper, we have comments like ‘big thighs are in fashion now’ and ‘Considering the strict streaming distribution regulations, they wouldn’t choose to attract customers with exaggerated breasts’ and ‘Can we call Ryza’s thighs realistic?’
Animes have changed over time; the industry has been adapting more and more to the present times, whether for better or worse. Those of us who consume such content cannot let these changes go unnoticed
