Arcueid Design is Based on a Canadian Model
Arcueid Brunestud is the main heroine of Type-Moon’s visual novel Tsukihime, originally released in the 2000s, with its remake launched in August 2021. The story blends vampire fantasy with an enchanting romance and charming characters.
It was recently discovered that Takashi Takeuchi, one of Type-Moon’s founders, based Arcueid’s design on a foreign model he saw in a fashion magazine six years before creating the character’s look.
Arcueid Design is Based on a Canadian Model
In 2001, Nasu and Takeuchi participated in an online interview where Takeuchi revealed: “About six years ago, when I was in college, I saw a very cute foreign model in a fashion magazine at a friend’s house.”
Fans began investigating to see if the model knew she had inspired Arcueid’s design. They first discovered a Japanese fashion magazine from March 1996 that matched the timeline mentioned.
SPUR is a Japanese fashion magazine that has been active since 1989. After some research, fans identified the model as Amanda Dyer, a Canadian who was modeling in Japan at the age of 15. Fans reached out to Amanda via Facebook to confirm if she was indeed the model, and she confirmed it.
The cuteness and charm of Arcueid stem from Amanda Dyer. Fans then informed her about Arcueid and Type-Moon, to which she responded that she had no prior knowledge of the company or the game, but expressed interest in contacting them.
After 23 years, it was revealed that the design of Arcueid, one of Type-Moon’s leading heroines, was inspired by Canadian model Amanda Dyer.
