Heavenly Delusion Chapter 70 and the Truth Behind the Hirukos

Heavenly Delusion Chapter 70 and the Truth Behind the Hirukos

SPOILERS FOR HEAVENLY DELUSION

The latest Heavenly Delusion chapter 70 has finally answered one of the biggest mysteries since the beginning of the story: why do the children turn into monsters?

We know that the children who grew up in the school eventually become the creatures known as Hirukos upon their deaths. But why does this happen? The shocking truth is that it was all intentional.

Heavenly Delusion Chapter 70 and the Truth Behind the Hirukos

In chapter 70, the director, now in a new body, returns to the school only to find it completely destroyed. There, she discovers that one of Meena’s terminals is still functioning. That’s when Meena reveals the truth behind the Hirukos.

When facing the terminal, the director asks if Meena has learned anything about the disease that affects the children, since they turn into monsters the moment they die. And then comes the big revelation: Meena created the children with this purpose from the very beginning.

It is revealed that Meena “gave birth” to multiple children because she knew many of them would die before turning into monsters. She did this because she considers herself “humanity”, believing she represents the future, while ordinary humans are merely the past.

To differentiate regular humans from her newly created race, Meena named them “Hiruko”, the new breed of humans who, according to her, will rule the Earth.

Meena orchestrated everything we saw during the first season:

  • She awakened the children’s instincts;
  • Encouraged them to form romantic relationships;
  • Made them leave the school so they could spread and reproduce.

For Meena, the moment a child transforms into a Hiruko is called “maturation”. She also reveals that the monsters do not feel emotions, as they are unnecessary for evolution.

And this brings us to the ultimate revelation: “Heaven” is the name of the new world where all Hirukos will live as evolved humans, while past humans will serve as their food.

Upon hearing this, the director responds: “What part of this is supposed to be Paradise? This is nothing but Hell… IT IS DAIMAKYOU.”

And with that, we finally understand the meaning behind the japanese title of Heavenly Delusion, which is Tengoku Daimakyou.

  • Tengoku (天国) means Heaven/Paradise.
  • Daimakyou (大魔境) can be translated as “a place where demons reside”.

Thus, the title can be interpreted as “The Paradise Where Demons Live”, making the official English title Heavenly Delusion an interesting and fitting choice.
