Nichijou Voice Actress has Voiced Eroge

One thing that is becoming increasingly difficult is finding a mainstream anime voice actress who also does hentai work. So, imagine my surprise when I was browsing Japanese forums and discovered that the Japanese voice actress for Aioi Yuuko from Nichijou, Honda Mariko, has voiced eroges?

Nichijou is an anime that premiered in 2011 and has garnered a legion of fans who still ask for a second season of the comedy anime. There are many characters in the anime, but the ones who stand out the most are the three friends Yuuko, Mio, and Mai (in addition to Nano, Hakase, and Sakamoto, of course).

In the anime, Yuuko is the “silliest” girl, with many funny scenes arising from her tendency to think less than her friends, and in the anime, she was voiced by Honda Mariko, who in the current season is voicing Ha Yuri Jahad in Tower of God 2.

It turns out that Japanese forums revealed that Honda Mariko has “done hentai,” because in 2015 she voiced Rokuonji Kaoruko in the eroge Wagamama High Spec (which later also got an anime adaptation).

I dug deeper to see if this was really true, and the official website of Honda Mariko’s agency does not mention the game Wagamama High Spec, but her name appears in the game credits on several sites I found.

And this game is an eroge, which means Honda Mariko had to record sounds for “that kind” of scene. Furthermore, as I researched more deeply, I found a list of various well-known voice actresses from popular anime who have voiced hentai at some point. I will research each case and might create a list here.

One surprised Japanese person commented: “Don’t they change their stage names?” to which they got the following reply: “They do change them, but you can tell by the voice. Even if people don’t realize it, when an eroge is ported to consoles, the stage name reveals it.”

And this is true for Honda Mariko, as she uses the name Sakurano Hiyo for her hentai works—yes, “works,” because she has done other eroges too. You can see the list here.
