They complained about No Game No Life not having POC characters

No Game No Life went viral again recently on the internet when author Yuu Kamiya revealed that he received a message from a foreign fan complaining about him, because in No Game No Life he would not have put POC characters.

This was the message Kamiya posted on his profile:

“I received a DM from a foreign reader saying ”there were black people in medieval and early modern Europe, why don’t they appear in your work? it’s in Europe Were there furries or elves in medieval Europe?

Also I added some brown skinned characters. I wonder if I could understand this criticism if my values were still anchored to those of the West, or I wonder if I don’t understand this complaint because I adhere to Japanese criteria”.

Yuu Kamiya was born in Brazil, his name is Thiago Furukawa Lucas, but he went to Japan very young, at the age of 7, and has lived there ever since, so his values are much more Japanese than Western so to speak.

Anyway, that was the complaint he received, the fact made No Game No Life become one of the most commented subjects on Twitter.
