Nami Sano Passes Away at 36 – Author of ‘Sakamoto Desu ka?’ and ‘Migi to Dali’
We have a somber announcement on this August 16th – Nami Sano, the author of ‘Sakamoto Desu ka?’ and ‘Migi to Dali,’ has passed away at the age of 36 after a battle with cancer.

The official profile of Harta Manga has communicated that the author passed away on August 5th. Fans are mourning the loss of such a young author.

According to the note above, Sano died of cancer just 1 month after discovering that she had the disease, and what makes the story sadder is that she was already in the early stages of starting her new manga.
Harta editors shared an excerpt from Sano’s last letter, which read: “This ended up being a fun life. I am now going to a more free world. Goodbye.”
Career
Nami Sano debuted as a mangaka in 2011 with the manga Sakamoto desu ga? which received an anime adaptation, the manga had a total of 4 volumes. Migi and Dali started in 2017 and ended in 2021, with 7 volumes in total.
In October of this year, the anime adaptation of ‘Migi to Dali,’ also authored by Sano, is set to premiere. Unfortunately, she won’t be here to watch the anime weekly and see the fans’ reactions.
