Once again, Kanojo Okarishimasu’s author, Reiji Miyajima, is facing criticism on social media, this time for posting on his profile an illustration of Chizuru, the heroine of Kanojo Okarishimasu, created by an AI.
Due to the opposition of some people to the use of AI in illustrations, the author is receiving quite a bit of criticism. Below you can check out the Chizuru illustration created by the AI:
In the description of his post, Reiji Miyajima mentions that he recently became interested in AI and decided to make the AI learn his drawing style to create Chizuru’s art, which he found “cute.”

You can see many other negative comments about the author using AI here. It seems that these people’s main concern is that Reiji will start using AI in his manga, something he hasn’t mentioned at all. He has a very beautiful drawing style, as you can see below:
Also, remember that Reiji is not the first author to openly like and use AI. The author of Gantz also likes to play around and experiment with AI. Furthermore, Reiji trained the AI with his own drawing style, which is a good thing.
A Japanese person who saw Western complaints about Reiji using AI commented as follows: “So, you all care about mangakas and their well-being after one of them dies, but when someone implements technology that will help ease the burden on them, it becomes a problem, performative outrage as usual from Westerners.”
The use of AI in manga and anime is inevitable and already happening, and it will be even more implemented in the future. This will certainly help ease the workload of authors, but it seems that many people can’t understand that.
“This culture of overwork needs to change! But this is their reaction to something that can help with that,” another person commented on the subject. Another person argued that human illustrators learn the same way as AI, by copying others’ art until they develop their own styles and learn to draw.
