Wakanim Has Been Hacked and the Data Is Being Sold

Wakanim Has Been Hacked

The French anime streaming service owned by Funimation Global Group, Aniplex and Sony, Wakanim has been hacked and the information of more than 6.7 million users has been stolen and is being sold on the internet.

According to what has been reported, the data that was stolen and that is available in their sale is as follows:

  • Usernames UUID
  • IP address’s (linked to each device and connections)
  • Email Address’s (and if it’s confirmed or not)
  • State
  • City
  • ZipCode
  • Country
  • Phone Numbers
  • Name and Last Name
  • Account Type (Free, Premium)

It was not mentioned if the passwords of the profiles are in this data but given what is listed above it is the last thing users should be worried about.

So far there has been no official statement from Wakanim or Crunchyroll France explaining anything or saying how this data was stolen.

A few months ago it was Toei Animation that ended up being hacked, which caused the postponement of the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
