That’s right, the Chainsaw Man anime was already guaranteed since 2019! Japanese leaker Ryokutya shared some excerpts from an interview with Mappa’s representative director Manabu Otsuka, where he says it all started when he contacted Shueisha in 2019:

”Talks for an anime adaptation started in 2019 when I contacted Shueisha as soon as I finished reading the first volume.” On Seshimo’s recommendation, Ryu Nakayama will direct Chainsaw Man.

”The fact that we chose a not-so-famous voice actor to play Denji was because he didn’t have a pre-defined personality. There are limits, but we will do our best as we have a lot of fans around the world.”

”If it’s a Shonen Jump work, I’m sure there will be a flood of requests for animation from the moment the first episode is published, but I’m glad Mappa caught the eye.”
