This revelation that she doesn’t like to be called an idol came about 4 years ago when she said on a radio show that she didn’t like being called an ”idol”, Sora Amamiya even went so far as to say that she hated the term:

”I really hated being called an idol. These days, there’s a whole section of the voice acting industry that’s called ‘idol actresses’, but I don’t like being called one. I didn’t like being the projection of someone’s ideal image, that being my job. I have no idea what other people’s image of perfection is”

Seiyuu Sora Amamiya reminded listeners at the time that the original meaning of the word ”Idol” is as a symbol of worship, and that’s something she doesn’t want to carry around:

”It takes all my effort just to pursue my own ideals, so I wanted to tell everyone to back off… I didn’t want to do ‘cute’ things. I wanted people to say I was ‘cool’ so I didn’t want to be called an idol”

”But now I can understand that different people have different ways of thinking. Some people are kind enough not to call me an idol when I say I don’t like it, but I don’t want to interfere with what other people think, so now I’m more like ‘Say what you want’. I think I’ve really matured a lot in that regard”
